Shave Club Comparison: Dollar Shave Club vs. Harry's vs. OneBlade (2026)

The "shave club" changed how men buy razors. Dollar Shave Club made the idea famous in 2012 with a four-minute video and a simple promise: stop overpaying at the drugstore, and we'll mail you blades instead. Harry's followed with a slightly more premium take on the same model.

Both are, at their core, the same thing: an auto-ship subscription for multi-blade cartridges.

We built OneBlade Shave Club for people who want something different — a single-blade safety razor, an annual membership instead of a monthly charge, and blades on your terms instead of on a timer.

Here's how the three actually compare.

Dollar Shave Club: convenience, delivered

Dollar Shave Club's original argument was a fair one: drugstore razor blades were absurdly expensive, and the buying experience was annoying. Their answer was to skip the shelf and ship cartridges straight to your door on a recurring schedule.

It works if your priority is never thinking about razors again. The trade-off is the razor itself. DSC uses multi-blade cartridges (typically 4 to 6 blades), and the subscription model means you're paying every month whether you need blades or not — and eventually getting a fresh pack when you still have dull ones in the drawer.

It's a mass-market convenience product — DSC popularized the shipped-to-your-door cartridge model back in 2011 — and it's priced and built accordingly.

Harry's: a slightly nicer cartridge

Harry's took the DSC formula and moved it upmarket — German-engineered 5-blade cartridges, a cleaner aesthetic, a slightly better handle. It's a more polished version of the same idea: a monthly subscription that auto-ships cartridges on a schedule.

Harry's is the right pick if you like the cartridge format but want it to feel a little more considered. But it's still a 5-blade cartridge on a monthly plan. The core model — pay monthly, get blades you didn't ask for yet — hasn't changed.

OneBlade Shave Club: A Different Idea Entirely

OneBlade Shave Club starts from a different place: the razor. We make single-blade safety razors — one blade, not five — engineered to eliminate the nicks, bumps, and irritation that multi-blade cartridges are famous for. (It's the whole reason we exist.)

The membership is built around that razor:

  • One annual payment, no monthly charges. Membership is $99 for the entire year, and it comes with an instant $20 gift card you can put toward any OneBlade purchase. No recurring monthly bill.

  • Order blades when you actually need them. There are no automatic shipments. No blades piling up.  No unexpected shipments you have to try and cancel. You simply log in, customize a shipment, and then it ships free. Up to 30 blades every 30 days, capped at 12 shipments per membership year (almost a blade a day!).

  • Choose your blade. Aggressive, Moderate, or Mild — in any mix. Your face and your beard aren't identical to the next guy's, so your blade shouldn't have to be either.

  • Real member perks. 10% off everything OneBlade, plus exclusive access to The Vault and our first access to new drops.

It's a membership, not a subscription. You pay once, you're in for the year, and you decide when the blades show up.

The two differences that actually matter

If you strip everything else away, OneBlade Shave Club differs from Dollar Shave Club and Harry's in two ways:

1. One blade, not five. Multi-blade cartridges were designed to give a close shave in a single pass, but more blades mean more passes over your skin, and some designs cut hair extremely close to — or slightly below — the skin surface. For men prone to bumps, ingrowns, or irritation, that can add up. A single sharp blade, used with good technique (and ideally hot lather), cuts the hair cleanly at the surface. For a lot of guys — especially anyone prone to irritation — it's a noticeably more comfortable shave.

2. Membership, not subscription. Auto-ship subscriptions run on a preset schedule. That's convenient, but it never really matches how you actually use blades — so you can end up paying for packs you haven't finished yet. A membership like OneBlade's flips that. You pay once a year for the benefit, and you trigger a totally free shipment only when you actually want one. No mystery charges, no drawer full of cartridges you didn't need yet, no "cancel my shipment" phone call.

Which one is for you?

  • Go with Dollar Shave Club if you want the cheapest possible blades delivered on autopilot and you're happy with a multi-blade cartridge.

  • Go with Harry's if you like the cartridge format but want it to feel a little more premium.

  • Go with OneBlade Shave Club if you want a better shave — a single-blade safety razor, your choice of blade, and blades on your schedule instead of someone else's.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is OneBlade Shave Club a subscription?

No. It's an annual membership. You pay once a year, and then you order blades whenever you need them — there are no automatic shipments and no monthly charges.

How many blades do I get?

Up to 30 blades every 30 days, with free shipping on every order. The membership is capped at 12 shipments per year, so you can pretty much use a new blade every single day if you want.

What's the difference between Aggressive, Moderate, and Mild blades?

It's about how the blade exposes and cuts the hair. Aggressive blades remove more per pass (favored by experienced wet-shavers and heavy beards); Mild blades are gentler and more forgiving (great for sensitive skin or newer shavers); Moderate sits in between. You can mix and match within an order.

Will a single blade really give me a better shave?

For many men — especially those prone to irritation from multi-blade cartridges — a single sharp blade can deliver a cleaner, more comfortable shave. One blade, good lather, and light pressure cut the hair cleanly at the surface without multiple blades passing over your skin.

How much does OneBlade Shave Club cost?

$99 per year, which includes a $20 gift card you can put toward any OneBlade purchase. Members get 30 blades each shipment for free and also get 10% off all OneBlade products and first access to new products and special discounted items exclusively for members.

Can I cancel?

Yes. If you cancel, you keep your member benefits through the end of your paid term — we don't cut you off mid-year.
